Pipe Relining Explained: No-Dig Pipe Repair

Pipe relining fixes a cracked or root-damaged pipe from the inside, no digging up the yard. Here is how it works and when it is the right fix.

If a plumber tells you a pipe is cracked or full of roots, your mind probably jumps to an excavator tearing up the lawn, the driveway and a chunk of your weekend. It does not have to be that way. Pipe relining fixes the pipe from the inside, with no digging. Here is how it works and when it is the right call.

What pipe relining is

Pipe relining is a trenchless (no-dig) repair. Instead of digging up and replacing the old pipe, a new pipe is formed inside the existing one. The result is a tough, seamless pipe within the old broken one, sealing cracks, covering missing sections and blocking the joints where roots get in, all reached through an existing access point rather than a trench.

How it works

  1. Clean and inspect. We clear the pipe with a high-pressure jetter and run a camera through it to map the damage and measure up.
  2. Insert the liner. A flexible liner saturated with a strong resin is fed into the pipe and positioned over the damaged section.
  3. Cure it in place. The liner is inflated against the inside of the old pipe and left to cure, hardening into a rigid new pipe wall.
  4. Final camera check. We camera the finished line to confirm a smooth, sealed, full-flow result.

Why people choose relining

  • No digging up your yard, driveway, paths or floor.
  • Quicker than excavation, often a one-day job.
  • Seals out tree roots for good by closing the joints they enter through, the usual cause in Newcastle’s older clay pipes with roots.
  • Long life, a properly relined pipe has a design life of around 50 years.

When relining is the answer

Relining suits cracked, fractured or root-invaded pipes, and pipes with leaking joints, where the line is still structurally there to reline. If a pipe has fully collapsed or is badly out of shape, it may need a dig-and-replace or a section repair first, which we will tell you straight after the camera inspection.

If you are in Newcastle and facing a damaged drain, do not assume it means digging up the yard. Ask us about pipe relining and we will show you, on camera, exactly what is going on and quote the right fix.
